Off to the Patscherkofel peak!

The Patscherkofel peak is one of Innsbruck’s favourite year-round excursion destinations. And there’s no need to climb it under your own steam – Innsbruck’s local mountain is just a short cableway ride away. When you arrive at the top station, there are numerous hiking trails to choose from.

One of the most popular is the Zirbenweg, or Stone Pine Trail. This beautiful route leads through the Tyrolean landscape conservation area with its ancient tree population, part of the largest stone pine forest in the Alps. Enjoy breathtaking views over the Inntal valley and the northern Alpine chain. The hike from the Patscherkofel peak to the neighbouring Glungezer takes around 2.5 hours.

If you prefer an easier hike, the Gipfelweg (Summit Trail), is for you. Starting at the top cableway station, this well-maintained hiking path leads – as its name suggests – to the summit. Take in the wraparound views at 2248 m.a.s.l. And when you hike back, don’t forget to stop off at the popular Gipfelstube restaurant, where you can sample the house-made stone pine schnapps or buy a small souvenir crafted from stone pine wood.
