House of Music

When in Vienna, a visit to the House of Music is almost mandatory. For no other major city can boast such an impressive roll-call of composers as former residents – Mozart, Strauss, Haydn and Beethoven to name just a few.

The inimitable Museum of Sound is housed in the historic palace of Archduke Karl in the old city centre. Its five floors resonate with music and sound; ranging from the works of the great composers to futuristic electronic and computer music. You can even step into Mozart’s shoes with an interactive application that lets you bring the maestro’s portrait to life. Or you can try your hand at virtual conducting. But beware – if your sense of rhythm is lacking, the professional musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic will let you know!
